It seems to be such a crapshoot for which anxiety meds will work, but I don't ha!

Question:

It seems to be such a crapshoot for which anxiety meds will work, but I don't have insurance...?

so I can't afford to keep paying 70 dollars each visit for doctor appointment after doctor appointment to try out anxiety meds, and I'm on 10 mg of Celexa right now which is not working. What do i do?

Answers:

10 mg is a very low dose of Celexa. You could try more or another drug. I have a crappy insurance program and this is what my Doctor suggested:

She gave me some samples to try and told me to call her if it didn't work and I could come buy and pick up some more samples (no charge for a visit). We did this until we found one that worked (Cellexa works great for my anxiety and depression). Then she told me Wal-Mart has the generic of Cellexa for $4. Yes, $4 a month for my prescription of Celexa. She even prescribed me the 40 mg scored pills. 20 mg seems to work great most of the time for me, but she precribed the 40mg so I can break them in half to make my $4 prescription last 2 months and not just one. Also, there was a period of a few weeks that I was going through a very rough time. I called her and she called back suggesting I take 30 mg since that is still a smallish dose. Since I have the scored pills, I took one and a half to get my 30mg.
The bottom line is tell your doctor your situation and they should make at least some effort to assist you (mine even told me of a grocery store chain that has 100s of prescriptions for $5 a month). Whether its giving samples until you find the right med for you, or prescribing similar drugs on the discount lists at area stores.
Hope it works out for you, because I was in that situation too. I have a Saint for a Doctor now.
