People say that if we attain deep sleep it is enough if we sleep for 4 hrs is it true?

I hate sleeping.I don't wanna sleep for more than a few hours.I wanna become a scientist hence i need to spend more time reading and experimenting so will it affect my brain if i sleep only for 4 hrs.How much time do great scientists like einstein,edison sleep many people say they practised polyphasic sleep.how do i reduce my sleep time and utilize it for something

As a budding scientist you should be able to appreciate the evolutionary disadvantages of sleep. Imagine all that time that we could be finding food, mates, more secure surroundings, lot of things. Sleep makes us vulnerable. Yet look at all these animals that sleep, not just us. If we don't sleep enough our brains don't work well, for whatever reason.

So sleep must be very important physiologically, and enough sleep is important, too. Do you think you could get by just breathing half as much as you do? Human beings around the world find they need around 8 hours of sleep, some 7, some 9. I knew a guy in college who tried to sleep less for the same reasons you mention. It didn't work. Try 7 hours if you want to experiment, but don't be surprised if it's not enough.

It's not just deep sleep we need, but REM. If we are allowed to sleep, but woken up whenever we go into REM sleep, we do about as badly as if we are sleep-deprived entirely. REM sleep keeps coming periodically all night long. You can't shorten it any more than you can get someone to adulthood in 10 years.

If you can be productive in most of your waking hours, that's plenty to be famous, if you have the talent, the right environment, and the luck. In contrast, if you don't sleep enough, you'll make a lot of mistakes. Millions of years have gone into our need for about 8 hours of sleep. It's real.
