Is anyone here Bipolar?!

Question:

Is anyone here Bipolar?

I am a 28 year old mother of three boys. I have suffered from depression since I was about 15, after being sexually abused by a family member from the age of about 13. I have an aunt who is bipolar and she seems to be the only one who has ever understood me, I dont even understand myself. On a good day people think I'm on drugs because I am so happy and carefree. On a bad day I just want to curl up and die, I break things, shout and hurt myself. People tell me they've never known anyone to have such mood swings. All my family and friends have turned against me because of all the terrible things I have done. I just can't cope with life anymore. I've been self harming again this week, this usually consists of banging my head against the wall until it bleeds. I cut myself and stabbed myself in the arm. My aunt suggested that I might be bipolar but the doctor will only give me antidepressants if I go there. All the symptoms sound like me, how can I find out for sure and get help in the UK?

The whole episode thing is confusing me too. My mood changes significantly throughout the day, let alone the year. The past year has been particulary bad, and I've even done some things I didn't know until people had told me. It's like I blank it out if it gets too much. I don't understand myself so how can I get anyone else to? lol

That honestly sounds classically bipolar. I have (possible) bipolar myself. I have a bout a billion disorders though so no one knows exactly..but I know exactly how you feel. And it sucks. And if you go to your primary care doctor, you're right, all they'll give you is anti-depressants, possibly zyprexa or something like that. You need to go see a psychiatric doctor. You'd be surprised how many people there are like you (I know several in the UK). My advice would be to find a psychiatric doctor, because they specialize in treating people just like you. There are many medications used to treat bi-polar and stop the mood swings. For instance, I have been on Seroquel, which, when taken over a period of time and at the right dose really does help to level you out. There's also meds like Risperdal (didn't work for me..but who knows). There's also a few that are used as anti-seizure medications, but they're also used in treating bipolar mood swings and manic symptoms. Of course, this process is not a walk in the park by ANY means..to warn you. You may have to try many medications before you find the right one for you, but let me assure you, there IS hope, and there IS something that will work for you. There are MILLIONS of people just like you in this world, and millions have found help. Patience is key, because diagnosing and everything take quite awhile to do...you could be bipolar, I could also see you as being Borderling Personality Disordered...there's a few things. But trust me, there is something that will work for you. Please find a doctor who specializes in these things. It makes all the difference in the world. If you need to talk to someone..feel free to message me. I've been through the process, and I can answer questions if you have any.

I hope this helps at least a little. Take care and don't give up!
