For uncircumcised men...?!

Question: I understand that the forskin can be retracted to expose the head of the penis. When does that first happen? I read that boys should be able to pull the skin back by age eight, but my son's doctor has been urging me to stretch it back, which causes him some pain. He just turned eight, so when should I start to worry?

The time the foreskin will retract is different from one person to the next. In some boys it is attached to the glans well into adolescence. If it hurts your son to retract his foreskin you shouldn't try. If it's still attached he could damage the tissues, causing problems later on. The foreskin serves the useful purpose of protecting the glans at all ages, but especially in childhood. There's no reason to forcibly retract it if it's not ready. He will naturally uncover the head when it's time, probably while masturbating. It may be tight at first, but with gentle manipulation it will gradually adjust to be able to slide forward and back over the head. But again, there's no reason to be concerned about this until adolescence.
Once the skin retracts he will have to keep the skin and head clean regularly to avoid infection, so it's just as well to leave it naturally covered up until he's old enough to be responsible about this.
See the information about foreskin retraction I have pasted into the source section.

he's fine see when he gets older he'll be fine it will go back on its own cause it will get bigger and the skin wont

I would tell him to do it...I dont think i would like my mom to do it....i used to pull it back everyday little by little when i was in the shower...it does hurt but the more and more you do it the less it hurts...just tell him he needs to make sure and clean it really good.

wow, simlar situation my 8 yo is circed but the doctors did a shity job. they keep saying he will grow into it. but for now, its like he is u circed. here is what happens . the pee dries up under the skin and forms what they call adhesions. and it will cause the the skin to retract. VERY IMPORTANT to pull the skin back and clean and dry good with every shower. hope this helps I feel your (and his)pain

The foreskin will retract or be able to be pulled back as and when it is good and ready to do so, I would never force it as this could lead to permanent damage.

I would teach your son what he needs to do as it is probably a little embarrassing for him, and then let him get on with it at his own pace, in his own time and in privacy.

If it's any consolation my parents never told me anything about my foreskin and I didn't know any different as all my peers remained intact, it was only after I turned 11 that our family doctor explained what I needed to do, having spent 11 years never retracting my foreskin, when I did start it hurt quite a lot but I never had, nor do I now have, any problems with my foreskin and penis.

Your sons foreskin will stretch as his penis gets bigger through puberty and retracting the foreskin will become a lot easier, HE should start worrying if by the end of puberty he can't retract his foreskin as this could be a sign of something more serious that will need to be discussed with a doctor.

Allow him to do that. He'll feel more comfortable.

massage daily with baby oil in hot bath,

it will go back when its ready so leave things as they are and let nature take its cause

Just have him clean it well and it will retract when its ready and then he can stretch it if he needs to then. I wouldn't worry unless he has a problem when he's older.

It varies from boy to boy. Your son may not be able to pull it back for another couple of years. Its important NOT to force it back, and just let him take his time with it. In a couple of years you or his father should educate him about hygiene in that area. That should include pulling his foreskin back and washing regularly.

Belle, my son went through the same thing. A grown up man should be able to pull his foreskin back. And most boys should be able to pull the skin back by age 18. Many can pull the skin back by 12 or 13, but it really depends on the individual. In any case, a boy shouldn't really be stretching at age 8, especially if it causes him pain.
I would start worrying around age 14 or 15. Not before.
What does his father say? Luckily, I had my husband to deal with my son at that age!

i suggest you just teach him about the need to pull the skin down and wash it whenever he takes a bath or shower, and he'll pick it up himself!

is his father around...?

Danish study showed the average age was 10 so give it a little longer. I know some guys are retractable by 8 but others not until puberty. Don't force it because it is probably still attached. If he takes baths and you swish the water around the area that should be enough cleaning, you don't need to clean under it because if it's attached then gunk can't get under there anyway. If it hurts him, definitely don't do it.
