Running at the gym, then blood in the urine. Have I overdone it?!
Question:
Running at the gym, then blood in the urine. Have I overdone it?
Last night I went to the gym where I did some running. After this I found it painful to walk - pain in the middle of my bits. Normally I get a bit of cystitis, but this felt a bit worse.
Then today I went to the gym again and ran 4K. It hurt a bit but not too much when I distracted the mind.
Then an hour after I passed water and eww it was all dark red. I thought I'd turned water into wine (no I didn't try drinking it).
I've overcooked it haven't I. Trouble is I'm so well self-disciplined that I've got to.
Answers:
This is likely to be running-related, asymptomatic macroscopic haematuria. Prevalence of running-related haematuria is about 20–25% for a running distance of 21–90 km, but most of it is microscopic, only detectable on stick testing. It would be sensible to get a GP check up, but there will hopefully be no underlying pathology. The condition is also sometimes known as ' March Haematuria ' and is also experienced by soldiers on route marches.
