Is it safe for a borderline diabetic to drink two coconut water each day?!

Question: Safe? Depends on how borderline you are and what the rest of your diet is. Coconut milk contains a lot of calories...

Here's a breakdown for a 4 oz. serving:

Calories 261 (Kilojoules 1092)

Total Fat 27.1 g
Sat. Fat 24 g
Cholesterol 0 mg
Sodium 17 mg
Total Carbs. 6.3 g
Dietary Fiber 2.5 g
Sugars 3.8 g
Protein 2.6 g
Calcium 18.2 mg
Potassium 298.8 mg

If the rest of your diet is mostly vegetarian and you are avoiding processed junk food, then yes, a little coconut milk is fine.... as long as you keep track of your total calorie intake for each meal. In fact, the potassium in coconut does you a lot of good... read this:

  • Does the coconut water contain lots of sugar? If so it is best avoided. When they said to me I was borderline diabetic they said to keep up with normal life but reduce the sugar intake. I didn't listen and am now a fully fledged diabetic

Refined sugar is said to be toxic in the alternative health world. It has been sucked out of it life force and its basically dead that will rob you of your essential minerals. Anyways, coconut is a way better alternative than the sweet crystals!

That question depends on the number of grams of carbohydrate your dietician or CDE recommends for you to have per day. How many grams of carb are in the coconut water? If zero, have as many as you want. Otherwise be very wise in how many grams total carbohydrates you ingest.

Some of us aim at 150 max spike 90 minutes after a meal or snack. This severely limits how much carb we can have from other foods and drinks.

Go talk to your dietician or CDE about this if the drink has carbs in it.
