One thing you can do is to pat him dry after a bath or shower. No rubbing with the towel-- just pat dry. Then, go ahead and put some thick emollient cream on the affected areas. This means something like Aquaphor, Eucerin, Cetaphil, etc. I mean the thick creams, not the lotions. Vaseline works very well, but people don't like it a lot because it is so greasy.

If the eczema is so bad that it's crusting or bleeding, you can use a steroid cream. Over the counter hydrocortisone is a good place to start. If that isn't taking care of it, a physician can prescribe a stronger steroid cream.

It's really tough right now, getting into the winter months. Eczema is a lot more prevalent right now than normal. Keep that skin moist with creams (not lotions) and try that hydrocortisone if it is getting worse. That should help over time. Also, an antihistamine like Benadryl may help take the itch away so that he's not scratching at it a lot.

Good luck with everything!

go to a Dr and get a prescription. I use atopiclair. I don't know any otcs that work.

I think you should see your doctor and ask for a soothing preparation. I have something called Cetraben for my itchy skin. It is a moisturiser and also Eurax lotion but I don't know if they are suitable for excema.

Hello there. I suggest you should try the herbal anti-eczema cream and spray from http://www.champori.com It works better than anything else on my eczema: I haven't had a flare up in more than a year now after only a couple of weeks of treatment.
Best,
Bernadette
