Several things to consider. 1. Have you gone to a really good chiropractor? It could be as simple as some nerves being pinched or something out of alignment.
2. Neuropathies can cause the tingling and numbness and I don't think vicodin is necessarily the drug of choice. Maybe neurotin, I think my friend has this and that is one of the things he takes.
3. Are you pre-diabetic or diabetic? That can cause neuropathies.
4. If the doctor thought you had celiac disease, he should do the celiac blood work and then an endoscopy before you go gluten free. Tests aren't valid unless you are consuming gluten.
As far as how long it takes to clear up, that depends on how long you have had celiac disease and how damaged the intestines are. And I imagine nerve problems may take longer than some other problems to clear up. The book I list below has some pretty good info on this.

I'm not entirely sure why the back and leg pain would make your doctor think of Celiac. Has he done a conlonoscopy? There are a lot more factors than just eating a gluten free diet, you should also eliminate any gluten containing personal products (lotions, shampoos, etc...) that you might use. Even your Vicoden could have gluten in it depending on the manufacturer... You should look stuff up at Celiac.com. Everyone there is extremely helpful and very knowledgeable.

Good luck! I hope you find some relief!
