Can you catch herpis if that person is not having an outbreak?!

Question: As everyone has said, YES.

Here's why:

One of two things happen when a herpes infection is "activated" or "triggered":
-it travels down the nerve branches ...
(any branch it so desires by the way, which is why someone with genital herpes can have an outbreak anywhere in the boxer short area)
and causes a typical symptomatic outbreak (the kind you see) which causes many virus particles to be shed

OR

-it travels down the nerve branch and DOESN'T cause an outbreak, but still sheds the virus

Somewhere in the neighbourhood of 70% of herpes transmissions in monogomous relationships occured when the positive partner was NOT symptomatic.

The answer to your question..... technically, you are MORE likley to be infected when a person is not having an outbreak.

Condoms will reduce the risk, but herpes can be found in areas that are not covered by a condom.

yes you most certainly can

yup

yes

YES.

The herpes virus can be shed at any time. There is no "safe" time when you are not likely to be exposed. Most people who have herpes were infected when their partner had no signs or symptoms of an outbreak.

That should answer your question.
EMT

Yes, I was told by my OB doctor that a person who carries the HSV Antigen in their blood will have it until they die. There'll be a lot of confusion about Herpes. You can carry the Antigen but not infect anyone. If you have lesions/sores than you can infect a person. This Herpes scare is too confusing. You can get Herpes by kissing someone with the Antigen and not know they had a small tiny sore inside of their mouth. Even when you bite yourself and it leaves a mark well that is another way you can get it. If a man's penis looks like acne than its Herpes. No one knows how to spot Herpes cuz its as normal as an acne or razor burn. The only way is to get the Herpes test. Once you get it you'll stuck with it. Some have stated that once you get Herpes or any STD virus you can also be prone to getting HIV. That one I am not familiar with on how if you're never around a person with HIV that you can get infected with it. Unless that person doesn't tell you is the only way. No one knows anything really on how to be safe from STD. Its out there and even a condom nowadays isn't efficient. Herpes can be around the genital area as well as your face or hands. Just be cautious. If it don't look right than don't have sex.
