Avoiding Norovirus - on surfaces and airbourne?!

Question: I suffer from emetophobia and I know everything about Norovirus, I know you can only ingest it, and that the only time it is airbourne is following someones "episode" of illness shall we say. How long to particles float around? I take it they land and then can be cleaned, but can they be disturbed again during cleaning? Is bleach enough, and should I buy a medical mask to wear just incase someone in my home or work is unwell?
Please help, I dont want to go out anymore, I am so scared
xx

I feel your pain. I also suffer from emetophobia and am finding this epidemic an absolute nightmare! (I'm also pregnant and due early February and terrified of going into hospital!)

I agree, the only time it's airborne is when somebody has an "episode" and the particles probably float about just like a water spray and then settle and can be cleaned. I very much doubt they can be disturbed again while cleaning; they're not as light as dust is.

Bleach is enough yes and good old fashioned soap and water works a dream on the hands, make sure washing is thorough and dry completely though. If you really want to make sure you have your surroundings safe, wash towels guests may have used, use paper towels or disposable tissue at work, bleach light switches and door handles. Remember alcohol-based and antibacterial handwashes won't kill the norovirus. If you keep good hygiene and don't put your fingers in your mouth in the time inbetween, you'll survive this horrendous time.
All the best.

Many thanks to all who answered, I hope the media attention raises awareness and hygeine and that the Government takes action if it gets any worse - for the sake of the economy if nothing else motivates them! xxx Report It

  • contact and droplet precautions. the same precautions you would take for influenza in general. you only need mask when 3 feet or closer to infected person. you can minimize droplet spread by having them cough into a tissue. Empty trash cans frequently. and most important wash hands before and after care. Clean hard surfaces with 1oz.bleach to a gallon of water. Don't be scared. Take care of yourself so you will have a strong immune system.

Oh my gosh I feel your pain so much.
Im also emetophobic and scared of germs in a biiiiig way.
Ive been planning what to do if anyone in my house gets it.
All I'm thinking is wash your hands a lot.
Sorry I can't be more help, and hopefully it will die down a bit soon(!?)
