For dental or medical professionals...?!
Question: I have come across several patients that have a very strong chemical odor on their breath. It smells like xray developing solutions. I'm wondering if this is a symptom of a disease or deficiency. Let me know if you have heard of this particular breath odor before, I have not been able to find out myself what it is. Thanks

Ketoacidosis can cause a strong chemical breath odor. People that don't eat properly (extreme dieters) can get this. Also diabetes causes a distinct odor, but it is sicky sweet smelling.
well...diabetes causes a sweet smelling odor on the breath, simply being hungry can cause an odor, people who dont brush...especially their tongue get an odor and the worst odor is caused by periodontal disease. its a very strong odor caused when the tissue the surround the teeth (gums and bone) start to break down. thats all I can really think of causing a strong odor.
