Which is the more important reading when measuring blood pressure : systolic or !
Question: Is one more important than the other ? If so, why ?
Answers: Is one more important than the other ? If so, why ?
the systolic number (the higher one, or the top one) has a great importance because it reflects the pressures in the arteries that the heart has to pump against. high numbers mean more work and faster tiring of the heart. however, if either or both the systolic and diastolic go to high, too low, or show a large gap, problems can occur. 120/80 is normal... 140/90 is high. 90/40 is very low and can cause fainting, and a reading like 130/50 is very unusual and is concerning.
