for the answer to the question.....oral medication has the ability and potential ...depending on the medication to cross into the placenta and enter fetal circulation causing harm to fetus. insulin.....does not.

This is news to me. I thought most GDM patients took Metformin.

I am surprised by this. Maybe you ought to consider a 2nd opinion.

Oral diabetes medications are not safe for the baby while you are pregnant.

Insulin is safe.

If your blood sugar levels remain elevated despite a special diet, you may be asked to give yourself insulin injections. Few women with gestational diabetes (about 10%) have to use insulin, though. Pregnant women are not able to take pills to control blood sugar due to the potential effects on the fetus

Mr Peachy is right. When I had GD 3 years ago they tried to give me oral meds for it.

I don't know much about the oral meds ... but my daughter is type 1. And I can tell you from that that insulin is not precise. It sounds like a bad idea to me.

Actually if you can control it with your diet that would be even better. A 300 lb female resident doctor told me I wouldn't be able to control mine with diet. But I did. And if you can it's better for the baby. Think about it and talk to your doctor. Just remember you can't just try to diet, you have to do it, or your baby suffers.
