Why does a cut in my nose stink? Does that mean infection?!

Question: I have had a small slit/cut in the very top corner of my nostril for several years, and can't get it to heal. I went to the Dr. last year and he said it can't heal because of the staff we carry in our noses, and he gave me some ointment to put in my nose to treat staff (maybe Muchipran?). I think it is also hard for it to heal because it seems to always have a little moisture. Recently, when I wipe that nostril (that nostril only and when it kind of runs) it smells funky. I know it is gross but to me it smells like stinky feet or a wet dog!!!! What in the world could this be? An infection? Like I said, I know this is gross and weird - but I HAVE to ask!!!! :) HAHAHA!

Also, no one else can smell it. It's not like that - it's just me that smells it?!?!?!?!

The smell you are smelling is from bacteria. Bacteria or staff usually give off a very distinct odor and this is probably what you smell. The drug I think you are referring to is mupirocin cream which is an antibiotic cream to treat infected skin, hence the bacteria. The cream is basically to get rid of the bacteria or staff around the cut so it can heal. The problem with this is that it also kills the good bacteria your body produces to heal itself, so your nose is going to take quite some time to heal. Just keep up with the cream until it scabs. Once the cut scabs in the nose don't touch it or apply the cream anymore. Hope this helps, stay healthy.

sounds like an infection to me..if not then it probably bled at one point and that dried up so it smells all funny i guess

Bad smell does usually mean infection. I would get that looked at very soon.

Maybe you're just paranoid and that's why only you can smell it. I know if you're worried about something it'll happen (in your head). I was going to say yes, it's an infection, that I read that no one else can smell it. So I think it's all in your head.
