Are there any side effects for STATIN drugs please?!

Question: I am now 64, basically I am physically fit because I make it a habit to exercise everyday for one whole hour for decades, but I find no irregular symptom every time after. Recently I am diagnosised with high blood pressure, I am advised to take this drug to help lowering my colestral which is believed to be the culprit of my blood pressure. I want to know the side effect of this drug please, thank you.

Age-related hypertension is a myth, and whoever diagnosed you is wrong. Your systolic pressure should be "100 + your age" -give or take roughly +/- 10. That's average for the world population. Your diastolic should be roughly 100 at rest, for your age.

You'll find a lot of nurses, trolley-pushers, and the like, will say "It's an INDICATOR"... indicating that it means something 'special' to them because they possess some mysterious knowledge to which the rest of us are not privy.
But when challenged to describe precisely what "IT" indicates, and what the criteria are by which judgments are made, they are at a loss to put it into words. -

By all means take statins; they're good, but many side effects include joint seizure, nightmares and skin rashes.
but different ones have different effects on different people.
Experiment with some until you find what's right for you.
But don't expect them to reduce your B/P's. they simply can't, nor won't, and it DOESN'T MATTER! Honestly.

The most common side effects of the statins are gastrointestinal -- nausea, gas, upset stomach.

Less common are headache, dizziness, rash, and sleep disturbances (sleep disturbances are quite rare)

try one and find by your self

There is a side effect that I can't remember the exact term for but it causes the muscles to rapidly atrophy. It is very painful, and there is no treatment and no cure once it happens. For some people, the muscles go back to normal in a decent amount of time. For others, it doesn't. If you don't have other risks indicative of heart disease, skip the meds. They really are a scam to begin with.

There are many alternative treatments for high blood pressure and for high cholesterol. Look around the internet for something that would work for you.

Also, try to determine the underlying cause. High cholesterol is causing high blood pressure, but what is causing the high cholesterol?

When your doctor prescribes a medication for you, that is the sort of question you need to ask and get the answer to before you walk out of his/her office. If for some reason you don't ask then, then you need to ask the pharmacist when you pick up the medication at the pharmacy. You'll get better answers that way than you'll get by coming to Y!A. You and your medications are a discussion between you and your doctor and/or pharmacist. Statins have one potential side effect. I'm sure your doctor, or the insert that came with the medication from the pharmacy mentioned it. (You really do have to read those.) If you begin to experience EXTREME and unexplained muscular fatigue, and I do mean EXTREME, like you can't lift up your arms or legs, call the doctor IMMEDIATELY. DO NOT DELAY. Time wasted can mean your life...It can only take a matter of 3-4 days....The condition, called rhabdo (for short), can be reversed if caught early enough, and the statins removed from your system. You would HAVE to be in the hospital for a few days. Again, this is extraordinarily rare, but if you begin to notice unusual muscular fatigue, call the doctor as soon as you notice and and don't let it get bad first. You can die if you wait. On the other hand, don't call the doctor if you are suddenly more physically active and the next day wake up with sore muscles. Sore muscles improve over a day or two. Rhabdo gets worse fast. Keep ALL the appointments your doctor tells you to for follow up lab work while you are taking statins. It is to check the levels to make sure you are not at risk for this very ailment, or side effect. Statins are wonderful drugs that have saved countless thousands of lives. Some people have high cholesterol that simply cannot be treated by diet and exercise. For some, statins are very necessary to eliminate the potential of heart attack and stroke. Keep taking the medication, and keep all follow-up appointments with your doctor, and really, from now on, never walk out of the doctor's office without these questions answered until you understand them. The doctor knows about the medications he/she prescribes, and doesn't mind sharing information with you. Your doctor wants you to know abuot your own health and what's good for you. The more you know, the easier his/her job is.

inside the box which contains your statinsis an important piece of paper it is important to read this BEFORE you start taking the tablets it list s the side effects reported to doctors by people who have been prescribed statins and how they have been effected

muscle tenderness, elevated liver enzymes
