Neosporin allergic reaction?!
Question: I got stitches about six days ago and the doctor advised me to use neosporin generously upon them. A day later I formed an allergic reaction and was told to discontinue the ointment. The thing is the rash has not gotten better. Does any one have any recommendations on how to help rid of the rash. Thank you.

Benadryl gel -- or take some benadryl (at night) before bed. In all likelihood, the oral benadryl will make you sleepy. Both are just for short term use. Ask your doctor for a prescription alternative to the Neosporin, as it is very important to keep your skin moist with an antibacterial ointment (perhaps Bactroban) in order to prevent scarring. When a cut or stitches dry out, it promotes scar formation. You can use vaseline temporarily.
