it's because of hormone changes, and the fact you're growing. once you are in your teens things can sometimes get out of whack, and you need to start adjusting things differently. i had the same problem around that age. i've been diabetic since i was 10 years old. go see your endocrinologist and talk about how things are going, and what you can do to help it. your endo should be able to tell you how to adjust things. if you aren't on the pump talk to your dr. about that because it really helps....especially going thru this time in your life. tell your mom and dad about this too, and they can help you with remembering to take your insulin if you are forgetting, or to not eat so much if you've already eaten a lot....i know these things can be a problem sometimes, it used to happen to me a lot. let me know if you have any more questions....i'd be glad to help.

umm...
im 16 and have been diabetic type 1 since i was 3. Do you take enough insulin for what you eat? It might be that you're going through puberty, which means more hormones, which means higher blood sugars. For me they always went low...
to get food out of your mind try drinking lots of water, or flavored water...try propel(only about 5 carbs per bottle) or fruit 2.0 (no carbs)
good luck!

Talk to your doc/nurse/regular diabetes carer. They will know what is and isn't normal for you. They should be able to tell you what to expect with adolsecnt chagnes and what not to. If its all over the place perhaps take a diary of it. i.e. after bball - whats your reading, when your desperately hungry, - whats your reading?, all the time when something different is going on ask yourself what were you doing/feeling at that time and whats the reading. Maybe you'll spot a pattern then you've got some ammo to talk about - maybe you'll start to notice warning signs and can prevent rather than remedey later.

You need a nutritionist or dietitian to help you with your diet.

I am 26 years old and I have type 1 diabetes. I was diagnosed at age 12. I have high glucose levels also. Talk to your doctor and let them decide on what type of medicine is good for you if you are taking any. Also talk to your doctor about a meal plan since you are active. Playing sports can lower your glucose level naturally.
For me I am on Novolog and Lantus. I am also on a sliding scale to determine the amount of insulin I take. I take 20 units of Lantus at night. I take 1 unit of Novolog for every 8 grams of carbs.
