Answers: My 12 year old daughter has been dianosed having Asthma.

well im 12 and have asthma so this might be more clear to her coming from someone her age asthma is where your lungs from time to time close up and inflame or like puff up and get filled with mucus.this ussually happens during exersize.there are puffers you can take to stop the inflamation and the mucus would go away and expand to regualar size

Mostly Asthma is triggered when there is an allergic agent, like dust animal hair, pollen etc , in the air which could be inhaled...to prevent the allergen entering the lungs the tubes in the lungs contract ...and so the difficulty in breathing and the wheeze

be honest use terms and explain them fully in words she can understand, if its a condition that she can fix w/out medicine by working out or any other lifestyle change emphasize the importance of leading a healthy life, but don't be too pushy, 12 year old are rather aware of important stuff, usually more that most think.
if u are worried about attacks or other negative aspects educate yourself and your child there should be resources in the Internet, and make sure to explain how inhalers work and what they do, don't be afraid to be specific.
good luck.

Tell her that it is something that happens to a lot of kids. Her lungs are sensitive to certain things that can trigger them to spasm. (bronchospasm). and when that happens, she needs to take her medicine (rescue inhailer). Take all of her meds like the doctor prescribes (if any). Do everything the doctor says. Stay away from cats, dogs, anything with fur. Tell her she must never smoke or be around anyone who does. Make sure she eats right and lives a healthy lifestyle and she should live a normal life.

12 is old enough to understand

you can show her an interesting answer on internet

explain it in words she would understand. Of course she dont know what the word asthma means but you can explain it to her. After all, she is the one with it, so she will want the details as to what it is and why she has it. Tell her you want her to ask you questions she doesnt understand about it, so you can answer them for her as best as you can. Also make sure she doesnt think she is infected with some kind of disease or anything, children have imaginative minds and can create big things out of small simple things. Asthma will not control her life, she just needs to treat it when she needs to and she will be fine. Let her know there are bunches of people out there with Asthma and she is not the only one. Im sure she will understand and be thankful you explained it in her terms she could understand what it means.

Tell her that it is a problem with your lugs and throat. I have been through asthma, and the easiest way to tell her, is what seems to me, the truth
