I have a tempature of 99.9 degrees? How can I convince my mom to let me stay hom!

Question: Okay I started coughing last night and I have a sore throat and
I feel really sick. I told my mom that the thermometer read I was some where between 99.5-99.9 degrees as my temp (which is indeed true) and she still isn't letting me stay home. Any way to convince her I really am sick enough to stay home today?

also sorry if this is in the wrong section >_<

Actually a temperature in combination with your sore throat does suggest some type of infection.

The thing about temperature and school is this: If your running a near 100degree temperature and you goto the school nurse she will call your mom and tell her to come pick you up from school.

If you truly are sick, please dont goto school and get others sick. Everyone hates the person that does that at work ( i work in a hospital ).

Yes, you miss school, yes it makes things difficult. But oh well sometimes.

If your mother is making you goto school because you are being a con-artist... as it sounds like from your question. That doesnt necessarily mean she should make other kids sick.

ON THE OTHERHAND: and this is for your mother. Just because your son has a 99.9degree temp and a sore throat doesnt mean that he CANT goto school. lol... if hes missed too many days, or just needs to tough it out ( which i totally understand sometimes lol ).... then send his butt to school.
Just remember if he ends up getting a higher fever, or vommits at school, you could end up feeling guilty for making him go in the first place.

PS---- look in the back of the throat with a flashlight.. if you see what looks like little white puss pockets..... which could be charaterized as little white spots. Then that is an indication of strept throat.. or streptococcus aeurius.. its a pretty virulent bug and spreads fast. Its best if he stays home. You may not need to see a doctor, because your body should fight if off fairly well.... But if you do see a doctor and its determined that its a bacterial infection then you could potentially get antibiotics and then decrease the recovery time of strept throat from 2 weeks down to less than 1 week or even 48 hours.

To help with the temperature.... follow the directions for tylenol and take as directed AS NEEED for temperatures above 100degrees... or in your case 99.9...

If your temperature exceeds 102 degrees, its VERY necessary to use cold packs in the extermeties, a tepid-cool bath,.......

when dealing with FEVER, take off all necessary clothing and keep it off....... covers, blankets etc etc.... If you start to shiver though, put some covers or blankets on because shivering will actually raise your temperature even higher.

Sincerely,
texas male nurse

you might have a problem with your themomotor as if your temperature gets over 50 odd degrees you would be dead the human body can only take so much. 100 degrees = dead

just tell her that you really feel bad
and you want to stay home to avoid passing on your sickness around your school

Hmmm...Sounds like no matter what you do your mom won't let you stay home...Just one of those moms I guess....Maybe try fainting, vomiting or crying, that usually works....But probably a lost cause, since it sounds like your mom doesn't really care...good luck though (:
And for the person who said you die if its over 50 degrees, what are you ******* stupid.

get her to look at your throat and feel your forehead. and get her to feel your glands or maybe get her to take you to the doctors

ring your doctor yourself he will advise you what to do, he will probably bring you in as an extra , paracetamol will bring your temp down, its horrible when your feeling so ill and no one believes you ive been ill for three weeks + & my doctor gave me antibiotics that i took an allergic reaction to! my body swoll up then i ended up at ER. now im still ill but on different antibiotics because of secondary infections in my ears sinusis chest & throat, he now suspects infectious mononucleosis (glandular fever) i get more bloods done on tuesday so will find out for sure , my other 2 blood tests came back with liver function abnormalities which can happen if you have glandular fever. im not saying thats what you have as my symtoms are to many to mention and i dont have a temp although some people do but i do understand what its like when people dont take you seriously and you think your dyin! do what i said and ring your doctor ok make sure you do and let me no how ya get on xx

You have what can be classified as a low grade fever and staying home would increase your chances of recovering. Tell her that you are feverish and the clinic would send you home anyway. You don't want to risk infecting other people as well. It's just common sense.
