Question: My friend JUST now called me and told me a disturbing thing. Apparently when he BM's he bleeds, but it only happens when he eats spicy food, but he didnt eat spicy food all week and he bled once. He eats ALOT of spicy food and also when he pees it burns a little. Is it the hot food or is something wrong?

Hi there... Terribly spicy food can definitely affect the digestive tract, including your anus. Bright red blood in your stool usually indicated a problem with hemorrhoids, and the spicy foods can indeed affect them. More likely he may be somewhat constipated at the same time which definitely affects the hemorrhoids. He should be feeling discomfort near his anus.

The urine, also can be affect by strong foods and fluids. He needs to increase his water intake to at least 8 glasses (64 oz per day to keep the kidneys flushed well and water down the strong urine.

Eating spicy foods so hot that they are affecting him this way is not good for the body in the long run. He can develop ulcers from them for one thing. Try to discourage his eating enough of these hot foods to have them affect his digestive tract in this negative manner.

It's hard to tell if it's the spicy foods or if he has a urinary tract infection causing the burning sensation when he urinates.

Tell him to stop with the hot stuff, increase his water and see if the burning stops.

I am an RN

Tell him to go to the dr. now.

it might be the foods
but he might want to see a doctor its generally not a good sign to have blood in stool.....
maybe its hemorrhoids or something

tell him to use laxatives i guess

it should help stop the bleeding because it softens the stool

Burning sensation while peeing is a sign of dehydration or urinary tract infection, nothing to do with spicy food.

spicy food no can be that everyone eats spicy food
sounds more like he ways with a girl and got something from her and hes just not saying some it ,
does he have sures down there at all red puss looking and worms in his bm , does he have a fever ?
hes needs to see the doctor now not tomorrow
dont give them any other the conter meds
take him in now .....take care

Sounds like the spicy food are irritating his GI tract enough to cause some bleeding. He should get it checked out just to make sure, though.
