I feel so lousy?!

Question: sunday I got a sore throat kinda scratchy, I thought it was allergies from gardening. Later that night I woke up really nausaus and had bad diarrea for most of the night, I did eat around ten peeps so that's what I thought that was. I had a temputure Monday and had to call into work sick. This morn I could barely move and my throat is killing me. My work is going to request something from a doc, so I called and have appointment tomorrow in the morn. My temp has been 102 most of the day. My question is do you think it's strep throat. Im kinda nervous with my work I guess. I keep thinking Im going to get fired or something.

Ok, 1st of all, enough of the peeps. Those things are disgusting. Actually, my kids love em so they're all over the house. But about your sickness, don't stress out about your work, I've read many articles that state that more and more employers are wanting you to stay home rather than try to get to work if your sick. Understand, however, that it all depends on your attendence record. If you've been sick 20 times in the last 2 months, then yes, I'd worry. But if you get sick about every 2-3 months and have to miss a day for it, that's the norm and your employer should (should is the key word) understand.

Another thing you can do is to have your physician write a note stating that he or she saw you today and that your missing work is justified. About the possible strep, your office will probably have the ability to run a 'rapid strep test' which will let them know. Of course, those tests are only about 80% accurate, so chances are likely that your physician will prescribe you an anit-biotic, especially with the fever.

How do I know this? I'm an urgent care PA and see it in my clinic about 25 times a day. Good luck. Lots of fluids, rest.
