A pathologist is an MD, so you would need to obtain a BS degree and then apply to med school. You become a pathologist after graduating from medical school, receiving your medical license, and then completing additional training and a residency of at least 2 more years.
If you do not want to become a doctor first, you can get a BS degree in almost any biological field and then get a MS degree in medical or laboratory technology - usually a 2-year program.
There are also some universities that offer a BS degree (and associates degrees) in medical or laboratory technology, and some schools have specialty areas such as pathology, but this is usually at the MS level.
I takes just as long to become a pathologist as it does any other specialized medical doctor. It involves very little interaction with patients, but a lot of interaction with other physicians. All the pathologists I know love their specialty and they get more excited about cells than anyone I know.
