Does anyone have any information?!


Question: I just found out I have diverticulitis. I'm only 39 so I was shockjed but I have had a lot of the symptoms so its nice to have a diagnosis. My mom and grandmother both have it too. Does anyone have first hand information on it and what kind of diet I should follow with it? All info. would be appreciated. HAs anyone had anything bad happen due to this. My mom had to have a resection because of a perforated bowel.

Diverticular disease is the outpouching of areas in the colon. There is a lot of information out there for you. I have listed two below. As fas as diet is concerned, you be on a high fiber diet, but avoid nuts, popcorn, and seeds (pumpkins, sunflower etc) as these can get caught in the pouches in the colon anc cause pain or even perforations.

My uncle had diverticulitis, but by careful attention to diet, he lived with it successfully for many years. He was told to consume high-fiber foods, but to be sure to avoid foods that contain seeds, tomatoes, pickles & cucumbers, popcorn, whole grain breads with grains,He had a booklet that listed the good & bad foods.
