Can anxiety contribute to high blood pressure?!

Question: Can anxiety contribute to high blood pressure!?
A friend of mine recently decided to go to rehab for alcholism!. He's been there for three weeks and now his doctors say he can go home on Tuesday!. However, for the last week, his blood pressure has been through the roof!. (Before he went to rehab, his BP was normal, but his cholesteral was high) His doctors haven't said why his blood pressure is so high!. I was wondering if it's because he's anxious about going home, where he will have to deal with a lot pressure from his former friends, his "drinking buddies" !.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Yes!! He is under heavy stress!! Quitting drinking is a hard thing to do especially when a person is so used to indulging!. He may need to visit his doctor and get a prescription for blood pressure medicine!. He could have a stroke or a heart attack!. Get him to see a doctor soon!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, anxiety can contribute to high blood pressure!. It must be one of the hardest parts of rehab to re-establish a life without alchol!. However I would advise him to see his GP after he goes home, he definately needs to sort out both his blood pressure and cholesterol as these are signs of heart disease - don't panic they can both be helped with medication!.
Wish him good luck xWww@Answer-Health@Com
