Answers:
Kwashiorkor!. This is a severe form of protein-calorie malnutrition!. This syndrome occurs in children from 4 months to 5 years of age!. It has its main incidence between 1 and 3 years of age!. The principal cause is a nutritional imbalance in early childhood!.

The diagnostic signs are the following:
1!. Edema - which occurs first above the ankles and may become generalized depending on the severity!.
2!. Hair changes - lack of lustre, "pluckability", loss of pigmentation or color
3!. Diffuse depigmentation of the skin - especially in the areas where the skin has peeled
4!. Flaky-paint rash or enamel dermatoses - patches of skin turn reddish, then purple, with macules and vesicles

Other signs that can be seen with this form of malnutrition is liver enlargement and anemia!. There are usually associated vitamin deficiencies!. Of course, if you are malnourished, growth would be retarded!.

Hope that helps!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com
