Order is given to obtain a culture of a tracheostomy (do not want aspirate or sputum cultured), using a culture swab to obtain the specimen!. Where would you wipe the swab to get the culture!?Www@Answer-Health@Com
Answers:
I agree with Lisa, culture the incision site itself!.
As a microbiologist, I would plate this specimen as a wound and not a respiratory culture!.
As such, I would identify the pathogens isolated as well as any other organisms that might be considered the dominate organism!. (Even "normal flora" can cause disease if they get into the wrong location!.!.!.that's why we call them "opportunistic infections!.)Www@Answer-Health@Com
