Question: Can comming off zoloft to fast cause damage to you brain!?
I have been on zoloft for 7 years and in november of 07 I started to slowly taper off the drug!. 25 mg at a time(even slower that what the doctor recommeded)!. My mind was thrown completely out of whack and I was not depressed, but I was having withdrawls so severe and confusion so severe that I had to go to the hospital, and I had an mri done on the brain!. the confusion and emotional numb feeling I had was too much!. I went back on zoloft and now I feel much better, but Im still having difficulties everyday!. I went back on it 6-7 months agoWww@Answer-Health@Com

I guess not!. The withdrawal from sertraline is essentially what they call the rebound effect where your depression suddenly reemerges and you could be suicidal unless you taper off the dose slowly!. It doesn't sound like you really had that kind of problems when you super slowly tapered down the dose!.

One of the side efffects of psych meds is called derealisation where you don't feel "real"!. Infact this is pretty much the main reason people stop taking their meds!. If you'd taken zoloft for 7 years successfully I guess there might have been a bit of buffering from reality by the drug and maybe you got a rebound effect that centred on your feelings of " being real" ( feeling numb) rather than depression!. This is not so bad!.!.!.it kinda suggests your depresion is well gone !. Perhaps have a think about the whole experience and if you are confident I am right then discuss this with your doctor and maybe reduce by 25mg every second night e!.g 100mg/75/100mg/75/100mg/75 and keep this up for a week!.!.!.then reduce by 25 mg more every second night again for a week!.!.!.75mg/50/75mg/50 etc for another week!. If you get stuck stop at the dosage you're happiest at and keep going for a while!.!.maybe a month or 2 until you are confident to reduce more !. You're in no rush really !. Take it at your own pace!.!.!.

Finally, add folic acid 0!.4mg tablets daily to your regimen as this vitamin appears to be very much related to gene control in the nervous system that effects mood stabilisation and is probably lacking in foodsWww@Answer-Health@Com

It's never a good idea to come off antidepressents too fast!.

I've been taking these since 2003 and have tried several times to reduce the dose!. I become very anxious and irriatable very quickly and am unable to cope with everyday life!.

I, like you, have gone back on the full dose and feel much better!.

I do feel very concerned about the side affects of coming off these tablets and can't see how I can possibly do it and remain a person the rest of my family can actually continue to live with!.

My sister in law used to take Seroxat and had terrible problems coming off that drug, but she is free now, unfortunately it cost her her marraige!.

I don't know what to suggest!. Sorry I couldn't help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
