Question: Is it even remotely possible to get Atherosclerosis at 17!? :3!?
Apparently according to my grandmother, we have a family history of Carotid atherosclerosis, and she herself has had three strokes!. I get symptoms of Postural hypotension, including the numb hands, tinnitus and bad headaches in my temples/ behind my eyes!. Plus I have passed out thrice in the last two months!. What are the chances that I could be developing this!? I'm 126 lb!., 5'9 and the BMI said I was underweight!.!.!. She also had epilepsy!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Goodness gracious! If you were my sister, I would make an appointment MYSELF and DRIVE her to an appointment for a physical!. If I had even ONE of these symptoms over a period of more than 2 weeks, I'd get myself in to see the doctor!.

Your family history is one of the most critical pieces of information in determining what's "remotely possible" which means (and only means) what's remotely possible FOR YOU!. Certainly most people don't succumb to strokes, etc!., from atherosclerosis at 17, but the ones who do later were certainly DEVELOPING it at 17!. We don't "get" atherosclerosis; we develop it!. Most people develop it over a long time, but "time" is the critical factor here, and "over a long time time" is relative to the person and their family history and their health profile & lifestyle!. You sound like a prime candidate for being at high risk for this, you can turn that around if you know now what's going on with your health!.

In terms of health profile & lifestyle, other things involved include your HDL & LDL cholesterol levels, cholesterol & dietary fats being the things that clog inflammed arteries and cause the buildup in the vessels that causes stroke, etc!.; your diet, which puts additional (bad kinds of) fats into your arteries with the LDL cholesterol and provides additional building blocks for the whole problem; the amount of aerobic activity you get, which pumps up your veins and helps keep them clear; and whether or not you smoke, or live with a smoker, as cigarette smoke contains chemicals that cause inflammation in the blood vessels and creates or aggravates the inner vessel walls that will then be roughened on the surface and more able to grab onto the lipid (fat) molecules, which may not be cleared out of the vessels with exercise, which also boosts the immune system and helps manage inflammation!.

So, you see, it's an amazingly complex cycle, and if you are asking these questions and are having the symptoms you've listed, I can't imagine you've been to a doctor in a while!. I think your grandmother is trying to HELP you, and what would it HURT if you went to the doctor, except that you might prove her worries unfounded!? I think she could be onto something!.

** peace **

Edit -- I was going to say that anyone who tells you anything other than "see a doctor" is overstepping what's appropriate to suggest on here in terms of your stated symptoms and health concerns!. Then I read that you're saying YOU'VE BEEN to a doctor!?!!?

Why are we not asking your doctor, then, these questions!? That is the ONLY PERSON qualified to take everything about YOU into consideration and answer your questions!.

Well you do have alot of unhealthy symptoms, and being underweight can certainly play a factor!. However, you need to go the doctors reguarlly for check ups due to headaces and passing out!. Especially to get your cholesteral checked!. Carotid atherosclerosis is serious and needs to be moniterd on you since it runs in the family!. You are never to young for this and it has been seen teenagers with difficulty even get heart attacks!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

More than likely you are missing folic acid, b12 and iron so I wouldnt head straight to heart disease!. Your grandmother is how old now!? You can eat healthy and not be like your family, your only 17!.

Unfortunately in todays world kids are getting sick from the foods they drink!. So if you have been unhealthy your whole life by drinking pop, high fructose corn syrup products, boxed and processed foods, energy drinks, coffee, fast foods, then yes you can have problems!.

Nanno bacteria are tiny little bacteria in the blood stream that build up and form the plaque in the arteries!.

Do this test first!.

Iron deficency test: Go to the mirror and pull your lower eyelid and see if the color is red or flesh color!. If its flesh colored you are lacking enough iron and should take a herbal iron like Floradix!. It will take a month to see a difference!. Iron carrys oxygen in your blood and if you dont have it you will feel tired, cold hands and feet, headaches, RLS, dull brittle hair, brittle nails, poor sleep, pale skin (see thru), shortness of breath, fatigue, poor concentration, low mood, ringing in the ears, irregular heart beats, cracks in the corner of the mouth, dizziness, fainting, sore tongue and canker sores!. Add b12 and folic acid for best resultsWww@Answer-Health@Com

OK you have some real questions about a real problem, lets take them 1 @ a time!. Yes, it is possible for a 17 year old to have atherosclerosis!. In fact, postmortems of 18 to 24 year old soldiers of BOTH sexes from the gulf war conflicts showed a significant amount of atherosclerosis induced plaque in the cardiac arteries, see DOD doc 1965-jbl!. However, this does not mean you have it, and your symptoms that you are mentioning can be several other possible explanations!. I would not attempt to diagnose your case with this limited information, but I would encourage you to seek real medical advice from a trusted physician!. I will venture one more opinion, it is not uncommon to identify with a close relative to the point that we develop similar symptoms!. I am not suggesting that you are doing that, I am just suggesting that it does occur, when I teach at the University, and we are discussing the varying disease processes, it is not uncommon for the medical students to begin identifying with the patients, so just be aware of this!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
