How do I get rid of my hives...fast?!

Question:

How do I get rid of my hives...fast?

After July 4th, a suddenly saw a bunch of hives (at least that's what I think they are) pop up on my inner arm, legs and one on my face. They're just red and not raised too much.
I have a big ball to attend on Tuesday and I have to wait a week for a dermatologist appointment! What can I do to get rid of them- fast?

Also, they're just on those spots. Are they actually hives then? I thought hives broke out ALL over your body.

Answers:

If they do not itch they are probably not hives. Hives are not necessarily all over but these sound more like bites or some sort of contact dermatitis (skin allergy to something you touched or were around) Over the counter meds like Cortaid, Benedryl, etc. and their store brand equivelents may help. So may a putting toothpaste on the spots or a paste of baking soda and water. Try it on one spot and see what happens. Don't mix the OTC meds. Read the lables and see which one seems to be most for the situation you have since you can see the spots and we can't. A regular doctor or quick care place may be able to prescriobe something. You can probably get into a quick care place today.

Go to a good make up place and ask for a derma cover type product. One brand is Dermablend. The kind that is used to cover scars, birthmarks etc. and does not come off with water. Have them show you exactly how to use it. This is something much more and better than a simple cover stick and it will not come off on your clothes either. On your face it goes under your other make up. On arms or legs it wll be OK solo or with a light dusting of powder depending on the product you get. Try it on a very inconspicuous part of your skin to make sure you have no allergic reaction to it then practice covering the spots.

Worse case screnario go shopping fast for a ball gown with a long skirt and sheer lacy sleeves. I've seen some really pretty ones like that this spring where the sleeves were sheer with glittery stuff on them. They looked perfect for summer.
