Why is it good to drink lots of water when you have a cold?!

Question:

Why is it good to drink lots of water when you have a cold?

And is it really bad for you to keep doing everyday activities when you have a moderate cold. I have a moderate cough and runny nose. I just dont have time to go to bed and dont like taking medicine unless its really bad (the cold).

Am I really stupid?

Answers:

Two reasons I can think of. First, you want to keep your body and especially those air passages hydrated so that your body can move that phlegm and the germs it carries out of your system.

Second, infections raise your blood sugar level. In fact, diabetics are told to suspect infection if they get a suspicious spike in glucose. That's going to dehydrate you as your body starts dumping the excess sugar into your urine, and you need to replace that fluid too. That's why you "Feed a Chill and Starve a fever." If you're chilled, your body needs more energy to bring your core temperature up. If you have a fever, your sugar is already too high.
