Answers:

Seafood allergies, the third most common food allergy, may be complicated; the following factors must be considered.

1. As fish spoil, they build up histamines. These histamines, when eaten, can cause an allergy-type reaction without the actual allergy. In other words, if it isn't allergies, it's food poisoning. Toxins in the water where the fish live can also cause an allergic-type reaction.
2. Cooking fish thoroughly can reduce the potency of the allergens in it.
3. Some people are allergic to just one type of seafood. Some people are allergic to all of it. There are three main types of seafood allergies:
a. Fish. Bony fish and cartilaginous fish.
b. Crustaceans. Lobsters, shrimp.
c. Mollusks. Mussels, oysters, clams.
If you are allergic to "b", you're probably allergic to "c".
4. Interestingly, other food items can contain seafood protein. They include hot dogs, bologna, ham, Worcestershire sauce, Marinara sauce, and obvious items like caviar and anchovies.

There are many reasons this individual may be able to eat certain types of seafood without a reaction. You might want to show him/her the above information!
