when you have a haircut more often, then your hair will grow much faster, the same for the finger nails. how does it sense it.
even washing greasy hair is the same, wash it more often and it will get greasy faster.

your body recieves chemical messanger signals from your scalp tissue telling it there is a lack of oil and will increase oil production. same with hair/fingernails. the body knows what's supposed to be there and how much is supposed to be there and works via negative feedback (chemical messanger signals) to know when to accelerate growth in a certain area or not.
