Asthma or just out of shape?!
Question:
Asthma or just out of shape?
I recently started to exercise. I have ben walking swiftly for about 20-25 minutes around my neighborhood.
Today I thought that I would alternate walking and running. After jogging for about 40 seconds, the length of a block, I walk swiftly again and I feel like the hole down to my lungs is about the size of a M and M! It is difficult to breathe, to get enough air! Then after a few minutes, it is fine...but then when I run the next block it happens again.
Unfortunatly I smoke and am in the process of trying to quit. It is a hard process.
Does this sound like a form of asthma or am I out of shape or am I just getting used to jogging and getting my heart rate up again? Should It get better if I keep doing it?
Answers:
Sounds like exercise induced asthma. Go to the doctor. Even if you were just out of shape it's a good idea to see a doctor before beginning a new exercise program. You need to tell your doctor the same thing you just told us, and for gosh sakes, quit smoking!
