My wife keeps getting frequent headaches, why is this?!

Question:

My wife keeps getting frequent headaches, why is this?

i know that there is always the worry in the back of her mind that it could be a tumor however it is the first time she has mentioned it tonight, i have told her that it is far more likely to be something else. Either way I have asked her to make an appointment with the doctor but this can take some time due the appointment process here in England, so in the meantime I want to elay her worry by giving her a far more likely explanation as to why these headaches are happening. Can anybody help please

Answers:

If your wife is registered with a GP at the local surgery it shouldn't take to long to get an appointment. If her GP thinks there should be further investigation they will refer her to a specialist thats where the wait is. You didnt mention if she had other symptoms such as loss of balance, fainting, blacking out or spots floating in her eyesite (often looks like shooting stars)

However in the mean time to help ease her fears and yours her headaches can be for any number of reasons ...

Sleeping "funny" not only causes leg, back and other pain but headaches as well.

She could need glasses or if she wears glasses perhaps her perscription may need to be changed.

Depending on her age she could be having "hormonal" headaches - I know several women who get these types of headaches about that time of the month or while going through the menopause

Her headaches could be caused by stress or worry so her worrying about what is causing the headaches could be making them worse and more frequent.

There is also a chance that she has High blood pressure - which often causes headaches.

Allergies or sinus problems can also cause headaches.

Weather changes can often trigger headaches as well.

She may also be suffering from migraines

or she could have Cluster Headaches - which are very rare and 80% of those who get them are men but it happens to women as well.

Also, If her headaches do not respond well to painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen or paracetamol with codiene or ibuprofen with codiene then she really should see a doctor as soon as she can get an appointment.

Also taking to many pain killers to ease the pain of a headache can often cause a headache, as the body has built up an "immunity" to the painkiller.

I have provided a few links below - And have her call the doctor and make an appointment or perhaps you could call for her. Or if they persist and you do not have an appointment yet take her to A & E they will see her without an appointment. She can also call NHS direct and speak to a Nurse.

I hope your wife feels better soon :-)

You could have her try placing a cool cloth on the back of the neck this often helps me with my headaches. I have also tried meditation it helps to keep me relaxed and often eases a headache.
