I need to have guidelines for a vegetarian diabetic diet for a patient of Indian!
Question:
I need to have guidelines for a vegetarian diabetic diet for a patient of Indian culture.?
Answers:
I found this article in India's national online newspaper on diabetes and diet:

hope it helps some. I'm assuming that the individual is following religious dietary guidelines. here are some basic of a Hindu diet. More information can likely be found online.
The Hindu diet code divides food into three categories, based on the food's effect on the body and the temperament:
* Tamasic food is leftover, stale, overripe, spoiled or other impure food, which is believed to produce negative emotions, and is undesireable. Also, many processed foods fall into this category.
* Rajasic is food that is believed to produce strong emotional qualities, passions and restlessness in the mind. This category includes meat, eggs, fish, spices, onions, garlic, hot peppers, pickles and other pungent or spicy foods. Use these in spare quantities.
* The most desirable type of food, Sattvic, is food that is non-irritating to the stomach including fruits, nuts, whole grains and vegetables.
Other than that, as vegetarian diets are heavy on carbohydrates, make sure that an equal amount of carbohydrates is provided at each meal and snack, thus keeping the blood sugar stable. It is not necessary that a small amount of carbohydrates be served, but more important that a steady amount be present.
