ITCHING... related to kidney problems?!

Question: ITCHING... related to kidney problems?
I am an 18 year old, female, kidney cancer survivor. I only have one kidney which seems to be declining in function. I am passing protein into my urine (Doctor said I have microalbuminuria) and my albumin-creatinine ratio was a little high. The doctor I saw said there's nothing she can do at the moment but she wants to keep monitoring my kidney function. This was back in January. Over the past few weeks, I have been having generalized itching all over my body, which seems to get worse at night, but happens at various times during the day. It happens all over my body and the itching is INTENSE. I'm just wondering if anyone knows if this could be related to my kidney problems or what?

Answers:

Itching can be a symptom of kidney dysfunction due to a buildup of toxins which are not being excreted.
Given your history it is very important to let your doctor know about this. She will likely want to check your BUN/Creatinine levels. Benadryl will usually alleviate the itching.
Please call your doctor ASAP.

I've never heard of itching being related to your kidney(s) but with your history you should definitely run it by your doc. I'm assuming it's just some skin problem that can be cured with some cream or something but I'm no doctor, so get checked. Better to be safe than sorry. Good luck :) & way to be a survivor!
