The amount of second-hand cannabis smoke you would need to inhale to fail a drug test is generally much more than the amount of smoke and particulate matter you need to inhale to start causing lung damage, especially over a long period. This is partly because most of the THC is absorbed by the initial smoker by the time they breathe out the second-hand smoke.
The same is true for cigarettes: you don't get a nicotine rush from secondhand smoke. But any time you are inhaling hot, carbon-laden and carcinogenic smoke you are damaging your lungs. I'm a former smoker, and since I've quit, every time I go to a bar(I live in a country that allows smoking in bars) or hang out with a lot of smokers, I wake up the next morning feeling like I've smoked a pack. Secondhand smoke is very real, very annoying, and very dangerous for nonsmokers.
I'm all for your right to smoke, but it really isn't fair to endanger others.
