What is a more accurate test for streptococcus?!

Question: What is a more accurate test for streptococcus?
Is smear(nose and throat) or ASO blood test more accurate for finding streptococcus?
Thanks!

You don't specify why the person is being tested which is an important bit of information in a practical example. However, if you're question is purely hypothetical with nothing else given, then the ASO test is best because it is systemic. The swabs don't do anything so they are inneffective. However, if you culture the specimen on the swab, then it is the most accurate test for the presence of strep in the areas swabbed. In other words, the efficacy of each test depends on how and why the test is used.

Notwithstanding the above, there is no more effective way of identifying step than to look at it under a microscope. So, if a person is presented with white patches in the throat, for example, the swab will be the best. In the absence of symptoms, the ASO would be the more effective test.

Hope this makes sense.

Good luck and good health!!
