Your blood glucose level rose, my young friend, because you're not paying attention to what your doctor has told you to do.
With Novolog (Insulin Aspart) you inject prior to eating your meal. The reason your blood glucose level has risen is because the carbohydrates from your breakfast have begun to be digested and glucose, which is released from the breakdown of carbohydrates, has been absorbed into your bloodstream through the walls of your intestines. It takes about 15 minutes before Novolog begins to work effectively, and has a peak time of roughly 2 hours. This means it's going to be somewhere between 15 minutes and 2 hours before your blood glucose level starts to come down to a reasonable level again.
Hopefully, my friend, today's appointment won't see you being readmitted to hospital.
Be well.
What did you have for breakfast? It is very unusual for a person's blood sugar to go from 152 to 425 in a half hour. I don't even think pancakes with syrup would do that!
Because it is so high, you have to test for ketones. If you don't have ketones, throw out the insulin vial you used and take insulin from a new bottle.
You should consult with your diabetes doctor to help you get the right dose.
