I'm low but my mind seems ok. How low does your blood glucose have to go be!
Question: I'm low but my mind seems ok. How low does your blood glucose have to go before you know it affects your work?
Answers:
SOMEWHERE BETWEEN NEGATIVE INFINITY AND 69.
I've been down as low as 30mg/dL and still been fully functional, unaware of the hypo, barely realizing in time that I needed some sugar. That can be embarassing in a work situation!
Then, I've had sugars go down to 60 and get jittery and wobbily right away, so that I know I needed a snack. So, it all depends. If you are very well controlled, you will tend to be more aware earlier. If you go low a lot, you get hypoglycemic unawareness and that is dangerous, because even though you can sometimes function right down below the 20s (your brain gets used to it)...much below that you do not want to go, ever, since it can damage you permanently! Coma, etc.
17 is my lowest reading ever. I'm still here...my control is great!
