Question: Is it normal with adult hand foot mouth disease?
for gums to be stinging? I wasn't sure if this was an additional problem or part of hand foot mouth

That is very common. Sores in the mouth are also common.
Foot and mouth disease is an animal disease effecting cattle, water buffalo, sheep, goats, pigs, antelope, deer, and bison. It has also been known to infect hedgehogs and elephants, and llama and alpaca may develop mild symptoms, but are resistant to the disease and do not pass it on to others of the same species.
