I'm 12, 5'4, and 165 lbs. Am I fat?!


Question: I have a medium frame, but a pudgy jelly belly. My waistline is 43 in, and my body fat is about 50%. Is that bad? Am I fat?

Anything over 25%, I believe, is considered too much fat for a female. So, you have twice as much fat as you should.

At 5'4", you probably shouldn't be more than 120-130 lbs with a medium frame. Your waist should be closer to 26-30".

Answer: yes, you are fat, if you mean by that that you are overweight.

    Im not being mean or anything but yes. But when i was in middle school i hit 160lbs and i decided that it was time i lost weight so i went on a diet lost about 40lbs.It will really raise your self confidence when you lose weight.

    Eat less, eat better, and exercise because you're about 50 to 65LBS overweight right now.

    If you go by your BMI you are overweight. Your BMI is 28.3 and 25.0 to 29.9 is overweight.

    That is way too heavy for anyone your height and especially for your age. That is bad news for your health.

    5'4'' healthy range is between 107 &145. just cut out processed foods and do a few jumping jacks a day &ur good

    I don't like the term 'fat' but I will be honest and tell you that you are not healthy and you are not headed down a road of health.

    Get proactive! It's the start of a new year, new YOU!

    I would suggest eliminating any sweets and gradually easing up on the processed food (use wheat instead of white bread, etc).

    Although you should not compare yourself to others, I am just using myself as a reference. I am 13, 5'8" and 140 pounds. My waist 28in.

    If your body fat is seriously 50% then that is horrible. Consider yourself on the verge of extinction! GET HEALTHY!

    You probably are. One way to see if you are is this weird little height thing- at 5 ft, you should be around 100, then 5 pounds for each inch. So, you should be around 120. Or, you could check your BMI on a health website like kidshealth.com

    Also-are you a boy or girl? (didn't look at pic or name.sorry.) That is also a factor. Or, if you're very muscle-y, that might be it.

    Yes... I am 5'7 and I weigh about 190 pounds, including muscle... I went through the same thing, chocolate, candy, and any thing sweet, and delicous, right? well, I am home schooled, and we did the nutrisystem, and We all thought it would not work, but It works more than what you think. I am 13, and I am continuosly losing weigh, but you have to remember that its gonna get worse before it gets better, ok?
    your gonna lose a whole lotta weight, and feel on top of the world, but dont get hasty, and buy new clothes because after you lose a lotta weight, your gonna gain a little, and start going back up the scale, but if you walk, or ride your bike, or play with friends, go to the gym, or something, just walk it off, ok

    I hate calling anyone FAT...it's mean...people used to call me fat....even though I was only a little chunky...I have lost weight, BTW.

    I dont want to hurt your feelings, and I am not a doctor, but you really should loose weight, for HEALTH reasons. If you are a chubby teen, you may very well end up OBESE as an adult. Change your eating habits and excersize!
    I am 5'4" and 125 lbs and I am not fat at all...but I am also in my early 30s. I used to weigh 150 and was chunky then...not HUGE, but plump.

    THat jerk that said you should weigh 100 is a jackass. Even at 12 100 lbs is very thin. My neice is 13, 5'2 and weighs 100 and a size 0 is too big....she is skin and bones.

    Try eating healthy and walking everyday and your body will naturally set its own weight. Also remember, you ARE still a kid/teen, so you will most likely grow another inch or two and lose what is probably "baby fat"

    Either way a BMI of 50 is very unhealthy. Talk to your mom/dad and doctor to help you with a healthy lifestyle....It's never too early to start!!! Good luck!
