false you need cardio to amp up your heart rate and prepare you for better strength training.

cardio is way over rated but not crap. Fat is burned in the furnace of muscle. The more muscle you carry, the more fat you burn in any given exercise, or daily activity. If you build muscle mass, your cardio workouts will be more effective.

Accoding to Pavel Tsatsouline, the kettlebell guru, aerobic exercise is dishonorable, therefore, cardio must be crap.

However, I find that it keeps me thin, helps my heart rate stay low, and gives me pretty good endurance.

What you need to ask yourself is:

"What Would Chuck Do?"

That`s like saying exercise is ridiculous...But I do prefer weights

It depends on what you are trying to do. Run a marathon? Well, then, get some cardio in, ahem. For most people, though, heavy weight lifting is a much better way to lose weight and retain muscle than running on the hamster treadmill.

I think long, slow cardio is crap, when, in my experience (emphasis on the "my") you can get the same benefits from intensive, fast training. You still need to keep your heart rate up, say, 20 minutes, but you don't need to spend hours on a treadmill.
