High Blood pressure?!
Question: I am 17 and i recently had my blood pressure checked out at one of those things that you sit down in and it tightens your arm at K-Mart and it was actually a lot higher than what is even considered to be high. I was wondering if there was anything i could do to lower it without taking any sort of medication. Best answer gets 10 points.

To actually become diagnosed with hypertension(high blood pressure) it takes more than one reading from a qualified RN or MD. This is usually done through your yearly check-up if they notice a trend of hypertension they will then take steps to lower it, but it's never diagnosed after one reading. That being said, the first step is cutting down your sodium intake. High sodium intake alone does not increase blood pressure, it is an excess of sodium to potassium ratio. The ideal ratio is five times as much potassium as sodium in your diet. Also, low levels of magnesium can contribute to high blood pressure. Those are a couple ways you can lower it through diet, of course exercise will help too. Hope this helps, feel free to email me if you have any further questions.
