do 4-8 reps as heavy as you can lift in that rep range. you should not be able to do a 9th rep. you should do 3-4 sets including the warmup. you should rest between 1-2 minutes between sets for best results. if you plateau, switch things up a little
3 sets of 8, work-out every other day so muscles have time to breakdown and re-build. I alternate between upper body and lower body so I still work out daily. Things like bench press, squats, etc should be multiple sets- low reps.
