How long before a triple by-pass operation deteriorates and the original conditi!

Question: Assuming a heathly life style and diet is followed after the operation.

Answers: Assuming a heathly life style and diet is followed after the operation.

One cannot predict for an individual. A few years ago it was said that even bypass surgery improved quality of life rather than quantity. However figures being collected more recently are confirming increasingly that life is significantly prolonged as well. This is probably due to the addition of better anti-platelet drugs, often combining clopidogrel with aspirin and the use of higher doses of statins.

In an ideal world I suspect the list of things that affect outcomes is quite long.

Never smoke another cigarette
Aim for ideal weight
Take 30 minutes of as vigorous exercise as you can 5 days a week
Be on clopidogrel+aspirin
Be on 80 mgs of Atorvastatin rather than simvastatin 40 mgs, which is the more common drug and dose.

The last 2 comments are the most controversial, this is mainly because they have very large cost implications compared to more standard therapy.

10 to 12 years is the norm so brace yourself. I've gone 16 years but that's because another is out of the question.
