What your experiencing is the "pump". When blood and nutrients flow into the muscle and make it "dense". The best way to keep your muscles hard is by doing some.
Push ups, Sit ups and Jumping Jacks every day. You can keep your dense physique this way. This is only a simple answer. Having a proper diet and exercising daily is essential to having a dense/lean body.
If you are working out make sure to eat lots of protein everyday, this will help you keep your results longer.
Meat,Fish,Almonds,Milk.
It is used to the training. If you stopped for a week say, then started light training, and kept doing this for like a few month, they would be solid - But you would be weeker than when they were softer.
Of it may be they are week from the training, and given time they'll get solid again.
