It's better to hit the gym around 3 times a week (some say 5 times) and rest at least 1 day a week (do cardio the other days). It's not that it's bad to do 30 dumbbell curls every day, but you'll get more results from doing more intense workouts and doing them less often. I'd probably surpass you with less time spent working out. The trick is to stress your muscles out, really damage them, then repair them with food during your non-workout times.

You can do that every day, but try to even it out with all your muscle groups. Don't just work your biceps, you'll get an unbalanced appearance. Also, you'll neglect the smaller muscles that support the larger ones and you're more likely to injure yourself. It's ok to work out every day, but don't focus on one area.

you should start out working out only 3 times per week.

What happens when you work out one area group a lot without rest is that your muscles wont have time to expand. The effect is the opposite: youll start losing the muscles.
try working out your upper body one day, your lower body the next and so on.
