How to gain weight without overeating or eating very unhealthy?!

Question:

How to gain weight without overeating or eating very unhealthy?

I am a 19 year old guy and have been scrawny all my life. i am trying to gain a little weight. i have tried many weight supplements and protein shakes that just havent worked. i know i can probably do more weight lifting but besides that what should i be looking for in my meals to gain weight?

Answers:

Let's define healthy....fat and fit? or trim and fit? Packing on the pasta or other refined carbs will be left unburnt if your trying to gain weight and turn into fat. Now you say your scrawny so i'm assuming you probably have enough room for a little bit of flesh. So eat more carbs low in saturated fats and sugars so you don't end up having to cough up a krispy kreme when your 30. So i'd say going to olive garden's twice a week isn't in your best interest. Good snacks are like goldfish but whatever you choose read the label and indulge when you want, but not in dramatic excess of your normal dietary patterns.

Weight lifting is i said before your only option but mistakenly said wrong. I said this in my first post as thought that you did not want to gain a big belly,I believe it's your best option, because it's good for you and your everyday life. When you do rigorous lfting for over an hour or so your body is gonna need alot of carbs so help yourself. You're gonna want to do heavy weight and small repitions since you're going for mass, and supplement with protein shakes only if you work out cuz you're basically wasting money otherwise. Take protein shakes after your workout for better absorption and never before because that will make your body use more blood for digestion rather than lifting.
