Monosodium glutamate -- is this a gluten product?!

Question:

Monosodium glutamate -- is this a gluten product?

We're cutting gluten out of my son's diet for medical reasons. He loves kielbasa, and one of the ingredients is monosodium glutamate. I know this is MSG, but is it a gluten product? It's a bit confusing since the root word is so similar.

Answers:

The original MSG was derived from seaweed, but this site

says that MSG may have wheat gluten in it. Also, some people have reactions to MSG even without being sensitive to gluten (the Chinese Restaurant Syndrome).
